Speed Lanes & Turnstiles Installation – Secure Pedestrian Access in Yorkshire

All Access Entry Systems installs and maintains automatic speed lanes and security turnstiles for commercial, education and industrial sites throughout Yorkshire. Working alongside Post To Post Fencing, we provide complete perimeter security solutions – from metal fencing and gates to access control lanes – all tailored to your site’s needs. Our speed lanes and turnstiles enable rapid, one-person-at-a-time entry, preventing unauthorised tailgating and bottlenecks. Whether upgrading office entrances, retail outlets, universities or high-traffic facilities, our team ensures smooth pedestrian flow without compromising security or safety.

By choosing us, you benefit from: experienced local installers, GateSafe Premier Aware certification, and an integrated approach combining gates, intercoms, CCTV and fencing. We schedule most installations during quiet periods (e.g. school holidays) to minimise disruption, and offer 24/7 support and maintenance afterwards.

What Are Speed Lanes and Turnstiles?

Speed lanes (also called security gates or fast lanes) and turnstiles are pedestrian access control devices. They create a single controlled entry point where only one person passes after presenting credentials (card, fob, code or biometric). Speed lanes typically use glass or metal barriers with sensors, allowing fast, touch-free entry for authorised users. Turnstiles use rotating arms (waist-height or full-height rotors) to meter passage. Both systems prevent tailgating – when an unauthorised person follows closely behind someone legitimate – by locking immediately after each entry.

These devices are ideal for high-traffic sites that need secure, rapid flow: for example, corporate lobbies, factories, universities, hospitals, gyms, transit hubs and event venues. In each case, we assess footfall and security requirements to recommend the right configuration (sliding or swing barriers, tripod or rotor turnstiles, etc.). A fully secured entrance often includes adjacent fencing or gates to eliminate alternative routes.

Our Speed Lane & Turnstile Solutions

All Access Entry Systems offers customised solutions for every need:

  • Security Speed Lanes: Glass or metal barrier systems that swing or slide aside once a credential is presented. Ideal for fast access areas (e.g. office reception or transport hubs) where throughput is critical. Can process 30–60 people per minute when integrated with multi-beam sensors.

  • Tripod & Full-Height Turnstiles: Robust rotating-arm turnstiles (waist-height) or full-height rotors. Tripod models are common indoors; full-height units (with gate and fence) give maximum anti-climb protection for high-security zones.

  • Bipass & Dual-Lane Configurations: We install side-by-side lanes for simultaneous entry/exit, or special accessible gates for wheelchair users alongside main turnstiles. All units can work bi-directionally for entry and exit, configurable for time-of-day modes.

Integration with Access Control

For maximum efficiency and safety, our turnstiles link to modern access control and monitoring systems:

  • Intercom & Remote Release: Integrate with audio/video intercoms and smartphone apps, so reception or security staff can speak to entrants and trigger doors remotely. (See our Intercom Systems page.)

  • RFID & Biometrics: Connect readers and fingerprint/face scanners for credentials. Our installers routinely integrate Paxton, Videx, Comelit and other systems into turnstile controllers.

  • Emergency Integration: All installations comply with UK safety standards (EN 16005). Gates default to unlocked on fire alarm or power loss, and include anti-pinch sensors and obstacle detection to protect users.

These integrations mean your turnstile acts as part of a smarter security ecosystem – just like how our automated gates and barriers work seamlessly with intercoms and alarms.

Our clients range from small businesses to large institutions:

  • Corporate Offices & Factories: Control staff & visitor entry points. Prevents unauthorized entry while handling many employees quickly.
  • Education Campuses: Secure school or college perimeters with dedicated pedestrian gates. We carry out most school installations during holidays so the site is ready before term starts.
  • Stadiums & Public Venues: Manage thousands of fans with multiple speed lanes and turnstiles at stadium gates.
  • Retail & Leisure: Secure employee-only areas or VIP zones.
  • Healthcare & Government: Protect sensitive labs, server rooms or records offices with high-security full-height turnstiles.

For full-site protection, we combine turnstiles with our partner Post To Post Fencing high-security fences and gates. As Rapid Automatic notes, a turnstile “is only one part of the control line. The fence closes routes around the unit, [and] the adjacent gate provides a separate passage”. Our projects ensure no bypass around the entry point. We can install matching metal palisade or mesh fencing, anti-climb additions, and controlled pedestrian gates so that once an intruder encounters the fence or gate, the only entry is through the monitored turnstile. This joined-up design creates a robust perimeter: when your speed lanes are paired with quality fencing, you achieve a complete security solution.

All Access Entry Systems offers ongoing service contracts for corporate and educational clients, including:

  • 24/7 Emergency Callouts: Fast response if a gate or turnstile stops working.
  • Preventative Servicing: Scheduled inspections, lubrication, sensor calibration, and software updates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both control pedestrian entry, but speed lanes (fast gates) use automated barriers (often glass) and sensors for quick passage, while turnstiles use mechanical arms or rotors. Speed lanes suit high-flow lobbies, whereas turnstiles (especially full-height) offer stronger physical deterrence. All systems require credentials to unlock one person at a time.

Yes. We install them in educational settings all the time. They help protect students and staff by preventing unauthorized entry. For child safety, we ensure features like obstacle-detection and emergency override. We often schedule installs during holidays to minimise classroom disruption. Refer to our School Security and Commercial & Trade pages for education-sector projects.

Absolutely. Our lanes and turnstiles can work with any modern access control. For example, a visitor can buzz through an intercom (mobile or wall-mounted) to be let in, and CCTV cameras can monitor each gate lane. Integration with RFID, biometric readers or smartphone apps is standard practice. We connect gates, lanes, intercoms and cameras into a unified system.

They must comply with UK regulations for automated pedestrian doors. We follow EN 16005 safety standards (anti-pinch, anti-tailgating, emergency exit release). For example, sensors stop the barrier if someone is caught, and doors unlock on fire alarms. All Access guarantees installations meet these requirements.

Yes, we provide 24/7 emergency callouts and planned maintenance contracts for speed lanes, turnstiles, gates and barriers. This includes routine servicing, safety checks and rapid repairs. Many local authorities, schools and businesses rely on our responsive support to keep access systems running smoothly.

We cover West Yorkshire and North Yorkshire. Key locations include Leeds, Bradford, York, Harrogate, Wakefield, Huddersfield, Halifax, Ilkley, Ripon, Wetherby, and nearby towns. If your site is in Yorkshire or the surrounding region, we can likely service it. (For a full list, see Our Locations.)

Yes. Modern speed gates use multi-beam sensors to detect extra people or forced entry attempts. If someone tries to slip in, an alarm will sound and the system locks down immediately. This makes them far more reliable than a simple door with a doorman.

Simply contact All Access Entry Systems. We’ll arrange a free survey of your site. Our experts will assess your security needs, pedestrian flow, and layout. We’ll then propose the optimal configuration (number of lanes, turnstile type, integration with your alarms/CCTV). After approval, we schedule the installation at a convenient time, handle all commissioning, and train your staff on operation and safety.
